Background & Objectives
  • Real time Information Services & Alert System:
    • Reliability and robustness have improved
    • Alert system reaches its target
    • Better visibility of EMSC
    • Need to further improve performances in Northern Africa and the Middle-East
    • Need to extend the services beyond earthquake notification services


  • Euro-Med Bulletin:
    • After years of efforts, the quality of the bulletin and the added value has been demonstrated:
      • Significant increase in data contributors : 350 new stations
      • Validation by the seismologists and network operators
    • Need to push this new product!

Real Time Info & Alert System: Improved services
  • New web site online for comments: end of October
  • Different types of messages for different types of users:
    • Data messages for scientists
    • Earthquake-notification for general public
    • Customised services:
      • Each user defines its geographical area of interest and magnitude threshold

  • Maps with background information
    • Instrumental seismicity

    • Animation
    • Focal mechanisms
    • Implementation: Mid-2006

Real Time Info & Alert System
  • Further improve performances in Northern Africa and the Middle East:
    • Current contributions from Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Israel, Lebanon, Syria, Turkey, Yemen, Oman, Iran: some are not systematic!
  • More robust and faster data exchanges and data dissemination:
    • Email unreliable, and potential long time delays
    • Switch to XML (with the help of NEIC)
    • Migration to start in 2006
  • New services to fill the members’ requirements:
    • SUGGESTIONS ARE ENCOURAGED!

Euro-Med bulletin
  • Need to initiate the operational production while ensuring good data collection: By the end of 2006
  • Which time period to be computed now?
    • Euro-Med bulletin currently computed until end 2004:
    • Which priority: Compute the most recent period or fill the 18 months gap?
    • Required manpower: ¼ full time for routine production + 5-6 man-month to fill the gap


  • Need to push the Euro-Med bulletin:
    • SRL article in preparation (to be submitted in the coming weeks)
    • Euro-Med map to be prepared and distributed . End 2006?
