Witness location : Mexico City (Mexico) (356 km NW from epicenter)

We were asleep, about 5 minutes before our quake alarm started beeping.... Then nothing, then the smooth movement (just dangling things).  The question is was the sound of the alarm 5 minutes before a coincidence?? It s such a long time! Why did it sound? Could there be any relation?
