The sofa we were sitting on shook laterally as did the door and lamp shade. I am accustomed to the feeling as I lived for just over 4 years in New Zealand and was there at the time of the Christchurch earthquake. We lived on the west coast which is a five hour drive away on the opposite side of the South island. Our house shook even over that distance. 0

It came in 2 distinctly different wave patterns.... started with a circular swaying motion then quickly changed to a back and forth motion, but the whole thing only lasted a few seconds... there have also been several sort of aftershocks in the form of a swaying back and forth motion weak/stronger/weak. I believed I could tell which direction it came from as it peaked, and on further investigation discovered I was correct. PS: was your site the first to report it? I am monitoring via usgc and they have only just listed it 14.58.0
